Dear xxxxxxx

You wrote and asked on 12 Oct., 2001:

Jack,
Can you explain what 1 Cor 13:10. Someone is giving me the interpretation that it means when that which is perfect, referring to the bible, is come then that which is in part shall be done away, which I'm told is referring to speaking in tongues and prophesying. Can you explain to me what that passage means?

Thanks,
xxxxxxx

Answer:

Yes I can explain. To begin with, the reference to "when that which is perfect is come" in 1 Corinthians 13:10 is not referring to, or talking about the Bible, and those who claim that it is, are in error! "That which is perfect" is speaking of Jesus Christ, who is perfect. When Jesus returns to the earth (comes) at the Rapture, or as the Bible says, "the great catching away", then we who make up the Bride of Christ (which is the true Church) will leave this earth with Jesus. We will be forever with Jesus and therefore will have no need of prophesy or of speaking in Tongues, or of a Word of Knowledge, so these will stop just as Paul says that they will, at that time in the future. There will be NO MORE CHRISTIANS after that time, only the tribulation period, which the prophecy of Daniel's "70 weeks of years" shows us that the entire world will again go under the Mosaic Law of the Jews for seven years. Then Jesus Christ will return again to the earth to set up His Kingdom, and us (the Bride / Church) with Him.

The verses just above this verse, verses 8-9, gives us three Gifts that will be done away with. They are Prophecies, Tongues, and Word of Knowledge. These three will be done away with because, being with Jesus, we will have perfect understanding, whereas now we only have partial understanding.

I make note that those who make the above claim, always speak of the Prophecies and Tongues having been done away with, But Never say anything about the Word of Knowledge, which these verses also speak of.

I am convinced that those who tell you that you can't have Prophecies, or speak Tongues, don't have these gifts from God, and do not know how to get them, so to cover over it, they tell you that you can't have it either, giving you any number of reasons, of which the above is only one reason.

You must think about what they are saying, and compare it to the whole Bible itself, and not to just one verse. An example is The Book of Mark, Chapter 16, and verses 16 through 18 which is a description by Jesus Christ of the Signs which will follow, or manifest themselves in a Believer of Jesus Christ. We see in verse 17 that one of the signs is "they shall speak with new tongues." Now, if tongues has been done away with already, then there are No Believers Today, nor could there be since Jesus makes one part of the other, And if they say that, Yes they are believers, but that there is no tongues today, then they are saying that Jesus Lied, which would make Jesus a sinner, and that can only come from Satan.

So, you either have Believers And Tongues today, or you have neither.

I can tell you from my Personal experience with God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, that I speak in tongues daily in my prayer language, and that I have spoken prophecies which my Lord God gave me to speak, and there have been times when My Lord God has given me a Word of Knowledge for my use in understanding.

I do not have the gift of giving messages in Tongues, which is similar, but not the same. There are so many which do not have the gift of Tongues that totally misunderstand what Tongues is for. It is first of all a sign of having received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, which so many confuse with the receiving the Holy Spirit when you accept Jesus into your heart. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is for Power to witness Acts 1:8 "But ye shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you; and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

Wait: we must also look at several other verses to understand.

In John 20:22, Jesus gives the Holy Ghost to His Disciples. "And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost;" So at this point, before we reach the point spoken of in Acts, Jesus' Deciples now have the Holy Spirit residing in them, just as we do when we accept Jesus and become His Deciples.

Now we go back to Acts:

In Acts 1:4-5 says "And, being assembled together with them, (the Deciples) commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard from me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days from now". Which they received on the day of Pentecost, and spoke in tongues.

We see that Jesus is showing us that there is a difference between having the Holy Spirit in us, and having the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. And Jesus told All of His Disciples that He, Jesus, believed that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit was So Important, that Jesus Commanded His Deciples to not leave town without it, but to wait until they had it.

Does this mean that you can't get to heaven without it? No it does not! For Salvation is by Faith ONLY. You can get to heaven without it, but it is much harder.

I sought after the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, and when I received it, when the Holy Spirit was speaking through my mouth (I had no control other than submiting to God) my only thoughts were "Thank You Jesus for accepting me as a believer."

Today, there are people in almost every denomination who have the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and speak in "other tongues'. Many of them have been thrown out of their churches because of it.

I hope and pray that this will answer your question. Thank you for asking it, I am sure that it was God who is leading you to ask. Feel free to ask any other question.

May God lead you into all of His Truths

Jack,
Thank you so much for answering that email. You see, when I prayed and ask God about it, I kept getting the impression that PERFECT refers to Jesus. But I didn't understand how so I got all confuse when he sent me an email saying that tongues and prophecies cease. But the Holy Spirit kept telling me "He's translating it wrong, that's not what it means" I got so confuse that I began doubting myself. Well when he sent me another email I could feel the Holy Spirit wanting me to turn my head to the side so I couldn't read his email. He was greaving God. I got so confuse that I told Jesus "Where are you when I need you? It feels like your on vacation." Well, needless to say, after that he didn't send me any more email. I hope nothing happened to him (prays). But you cleared up two questions actually, the first was the email you answered. The second was the women in ministry. When I asked God about that he pulled my eyes to the word "I" in "I suffer not women to teach". It seem like paul was giving is opinion instead of a command from God. But you cleared it up, thanks.
